The Vernon Spring
By Kit Macdonald

The Vernon Spring is the project of the London pianist and producer Sam Beste, whose work exists somewhere between contemporary classical, jazz and experimental pop, with a quietly radical sensibility coursing through it for good measure. He has collaborated with artists such as Amy Winehouse, Lianne La Havas, Kano and Nathaniel Cross in a storied and varied career, and he uses The Vernon Spring as a conduit for intimate, exploratory sounds, centred on the piano but incorporating other instrumentation too.
This show is part of a tour to promote his wonderful latest album, Under a Familiar Sun, which came out in May. Doors at La nau in Poble Nou are at 8pm, and there's an unmissable treat in the form of a support set by the garlanded Barcelona pianist and composer Marta Cascales, who crafts "classical-rooted music with a contemporary, minimalist, and poetic essence".
