Throwback – Back to 80s, 90s & 00s
Some songs never quite leave you – decades on, the words are simply there, waiting for the chorus to come back around. That collective muscle memory is the entire premise of Throwback, the self-styled “Time Travel Party” that has grown into one of Barcelona’s favorite retro fixtures and celebrates its eighth anniversary later this year. Its latest outing trades the club for the open air of Montjuïc, with an evening built entirely from the hits of the 80s, 90s and 00s.
The setting is La Terrrazza, the fabled club beside Poble Espanyol that has been calling itself the playground of the magic mountain since 1995 – and few dance floors in the city feel better on a warm August night. The format, fittingly, is a tardeo (the Spanish custom of starting the party in the afternoon rather than after midnight): music runs from 7pm to midnight on Friday, August 21st, meaning you can dance under the stars and still be home at a respectable hour.
Behind the decks, Mr Majestyk leads the time travel, with more names still to be announced. Expect the icons of 80s pop; the dance tracks that packed 90s floors; the R&B that ruled the charts; and the turn-of-the-millennium singalongs everyone claims to have outgrown yet somehow still knows word for word. Three decades, hundreds of anthems, one party.
