Wimen Festival
By Charlotte Stace

For a full month, Barcelona becomes a hub for women’s music as part of WIMEN Festival. It was founded to address gender inequality in the music industry, and not only features performances, but also hosts events and activities that encourage reflection on the challenges women face in music. The aim? To inspire change for future generations.
The festival’s line-up this year brings well-known names like Buika, Mala Rodríguez, Yemi Alade, Maria José Llergo and Mayte Martín alongside emerging acts such as Ana Tijoux, Pongo, and Sara Hebe. From flamenco and African rhythms to fusion, jazz, and electronic, there’ll be something for everyone.
Underlying all of this are the festival’s core values: empowerment - giving female artists space to shine and lead; originality - celebrating uniqueness and creativity; transformation - working to redefine women’s role in music; and diversity - embracing a broad spectrum of styles, cultures and perspectives.
