Brian Shimkowitz's Awesome Tapes project is closing in on two decades of activity now, having been born out of a Fulbright Scholarship the Californian took in Ghana, and the fascination he soon developed with the cassette-tape culture he found there. 

Awesome Tapes From Africa, as it was then called, started as an mp3 blog and became a label, releasing dozens of brilliant cassette tapes of African origin. Shimkowitz has also been DJing with the tapes he finds and releases for many years, and this show will bring a feast of unearthed disco, funk, jazz and more to a spectacular venue in the 120-year-old Paloma Ballroom.
