Buffalo Nichols
By Charlotte Stace
Blues guitarist and singer Carl “Buffalo” Nichols was born in Houston, Texas, and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (quite the contrast between the South's warmth and the North's steely cold that resonates throughout his music). His sound blends tender storytelling with the grit of his raspy voice and slide guitar. This can be felt in “Lost & Lonesome,” the opening track of his self-titled debut album, where he captures the restless spirit of a drifter.
With the release of his debut album in 2021, he decided to embark on a deeper mission - to bring more Black stories into the folk and blues genres. “Part of my intention is to feel more comfortable with this release, to put more Black stories into the folk and blues genres,” he explained. Now, he’s back with his latest album, The Fatalist (2023). Don’t miss him on the European leg of his new tour. Tickets cost 17 Euros.
