Danish artist Najaaraq Vestbirk, aka Courtesy, is a fabulous DJ and an increasingly accomplished producer whose early piano-based ambient excursions were recently joined by the excellent intimate yell LP, her first album of dance floor-focused music. These two strands of work would be more than enough to sustain a fine career in electronic music, but her constant activity in other, related spheres (book publishing, running her own label, creating art installations) is what tells you most about a restless creative soul with an admirable urge to help lift up artistic communities in her homeland, in her adopted home city of Berlin, and elsewhere.
Her latest project is Against Interpretation Club, an innovative series of club nights focusing on art performances at OHM Berlin. Though this set at La Paloma won't directly be a part of Against Interpretation, the spirit of it and the central focus of her work, which she defines simply as "meeting people", certainly will be. Joining her at the Raval ballroom will be fellow Berlin resident Luca Lozano, while warm-up duties will fall to Omega III and Love Come Down DJs, who will go b2b.
