Fat Freddy’s Drop have spent over 25 years making music. Formed in 1999 out of New Zealand’s underground dance scene, they blend dub, reggae, soul, jazz-funk, techno and R&B into what they call “hi-tek soul”.

Their 2005 debut Based on a True Story topped the New Zealand charts and later spent 111 weeks in the Top 40. It was followed by Dr. Boondigga & The Big BW, Blackbird, BAYS, Wairunga and 2024’s SLO MO. This tour celebrates 21 years of that debut album and is also the band’s first since the death of founding member Chris “Mu” Faiumu in 2025. This is the second of two nights at Razzmatazz, with the first already sold out - so don’t hang around if you want to catch them.

Worth it? Gigwise says: “There is no other band in the world that does what Fat Freddy's Drop does. On stage, they are truly an unparalleled experience.” I think that’s a solid yes.
