Future islands
By Charlotte Stace
American synth-pop band Future Islands comes to perform live at Razzmatazz. Composed of Gerrit Welmers (keyboards and programming), William Cashion (guitars), Samuel T. Herring (lyrics and vocals), and Michael Lowry (percussion), the band was formed in 2006. Yet it wasn’t until 2014 that they burst onto the commercial scene with their fourth studio album, Singles. The album took them on a world tour and earned them the AIM Aware for Independent Breakthrough of the Year.
Then came their fifth album, The Far Field (2017), and later, As Long As You Are (2020). Throughout each of their records, they weave together synth pop sounds with indie rock and thought-provoking lyrics. Now they’re back with a brand new album - People Who Aren’t There Anymore (2024) - and they’re getting started on yet another world tour. Don’t miss them live.
