Jaume Plensa
By Rich Jones
In a career spanning almost forty years, Jaume Plensa has developed and exhibited an elaborate and personal body of work that includes drawing, graphic works, costume design and well-documented public sculpture.
A collection entitled Recent Graphic Works is on display until the end of June at the Palmadotze art gallery located in a beautiful 15th-century farmhouse just outside Vilafranca del Penedès. The drawings show the bodies and faces of anonymous men, women and children, and evoke their emotions and gesture with deliberate neutrality. These ghost-like forms almost appear familiar with the historic building they inhabit.
Nestled among lush vines, Masia Mas Pujó offers a program of regular exhibitions alongside a series of sporadic cultural events (concerts, open-air performances, wine and oil tastings, and guided visits) that link the landscape, tradition, and activity of wine growing with contemporary art.
