La Matèria Construïda

Disseny Hub Barcelona presents the exhibition La Matèria Construïda, a project by A-FAD that connects the philosophy of craft with the beauty and vitality of materials. In a world where uniformity and mass production often dominate, handmade creation emerges as a conscious act of resistance against consumerism. The exhibition explores the space where artisanal processes and the agency of materials intersect.
Inspired by the theories of philosopher Diana Coole - who argues that matter “has a life of its own” and shapes our world - and by the legacy of designer and activist William Morris, who honoured nature, valued honest materials and criticised mass industrialisation, the exhibition proposes a new relationship with materials: not as passive elements, but as vital collaborators. The participating artists and makers imagine matter not simply as a medium, but as an agent that vibrates, acts and transforms.
