Lluís Hortalà’s Posar el dit a l’ull (A poke in the eye) explores the tension between tradition and the contemporary world, using classical pictorial techniques to question perception, power and artistic representation. His work engages with optical illusion, trompe l’œil and imitation, playing with the boundaries of reality and deception. By doing so, he challenges the viewer’s understanding of art’s role in shaping how we see the world.

Beyond technical mastery, the artist’s work provokes deeper reflection on the mechanisms of knowledge and cultural structures. He interrogates the ways modernity and the avant-garde either facilitate or hinder critical thought on contemporary artistic practice. Engaging with French philosopher Jacques Rancière’s ideas, the exhibition reveals the intersection between aesthetics and politics, urging viewers to reconsider the function of art beyond mere representation.

Curated by Teresa Grandas, the exhibition positions Hortalà’s work within a dialogue on production, perception and cultural critique. A must-see for contemporary art lovers.
