MAIG is part of a new generation of Catalan pop artists shaping a more intimate and direct sound. She fits within a lineage of younger artists for whom names like Julieta, Lorde, Billie Eilish and Rosalía are reference points, which gives a good sense of where her music sits. It’s contemporary, confessional and plugged into both local and international pop language.
What makes her interesting is that she seems to be building that voice on her own terms.
