MUMIY TROLL
By Charlotte Stace

Mumiy Troll is one of Russia’s most influential rock bands, formed in Vladivostok in the early 1980s by frontman Ilya Lagutenko. Often credited with revolutionising Russian rock, they introduced a fresh sound that fused alternative rock with pop and poetry.
Their breakout came with their third album, Morskaya (1997), which marked a cultural shift in Russian mainstream rock music. But they didn’t stop there. In total, they’ve released 22 records, won numerous music awards, performed all over the world and even represented Russia in the Eurovision in 2001. Their discography marks their journey from quirky post-Soviet innovators to professional international performers.
Though it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for them. In 2022, they condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine and, as a result, had all their concerts in Russia cancelled by the authorities. But this is one band that won’t be silenced. Make sure to catch them live at Razzmatazz. Tickets currently on sale.
