“If you think that jangly, bittersweet indie-pop is a lost art, then you owe it to yourself to check out this band, who would’ve been stars on ’80s college radio.” So said Stereogum of the London four-piece World News, and it's extremely hard to disagree. They've been expertly channelling influences that seem to include The Smiths, The Clash, American college rock and even Dire Straits for a few years now, having emerged from Brighton’s grassroots music scene and then established themselves in London.
Early releases including 2020's Job and Money EP established a DIY approach that has remained central to their identity. The Escape and Mindsnap EPs followed in 2024 and their debut album, In Purgatory, arrived just a couple of weeks ago. Simultaneously nostalgic and fresh, it's a notably accomplished and complete full-length. Doors are at 8pm, and support comes from Andris el Sardo.
