Barcelona Gallery Weekend
By Yvonne Mannix
One of the advantages of summer drawing to a close and temperatures cooling down is that motivation returns to get off the beach and seek out some culture. Just in time, this month sees the return of the annual Barcelona Gallery Weekend, giving the chance to visit numerous galleries and spaces around the city for free.
This is the second year for this event which aims to turn Barcelona into a hub of the contemporary art sector. To achieve this, they’re opening the doors to 23 galleries and unique spaces, including some that are normally closed to the public, like the 19th-century Arús public library, the Barcelona City Police Stables, the 1930’s Club Billar Barcelona (billiards club) and the former textile factory Can Trinxet in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.
With a program packed with national and international artists in painting, sculpture and installations, the weekend promises to be a fascinating reflection of the current art world.
