Carma Casulá
By Charlotte Stace
Fundacio Vila Casas exhibits the work of the winner of the Antoni Vila Casas Photography Prize 2023, Carma Casulá.
She presents a photographic project that looks at some of Spain’s nature protection areas and gives particular attention to the agents that impact upon them - both natural and human factors.
As both a visual artist and photographer, Casulá brings us a critical reflection on the exploitation of these areas that are declared to be protected. While the urban population looks for a place to escape to, to disconnect and to enjoy freedom in the countryside and natural landscape, these places are extremely sensitive and are often left damaged and destroyed. Casulá, therefore, focuses her research on shining a light on the degradation caused by the large numbers of visitors to these areas, and the strategies employed to prevent such damage.
