By Charlotte Stace

The Challenge Barcelona Triathlon 2025 returns this week, transforming the city’s coastline into an international sporting arena. Centred around Poblenou and Sant Martí, the event attracts both elite athletes and amateurs eager to experience one of Europe’s most scenic urban triathlons. With the Mediterranean Sea as the backdrop and routes weaving through the city’s avenues, the race epitomises Barcelona’s spirit of sport and community.
This year’s edition introduces an expanded Middle Distance challenge - comprising a 1.9 km swim, 88 km cycle, and 21 km run - alongside the Sprint (750 m / 20 km / 5 km) and Junior Challenge (300 m / 7 km / 1.5 km). There are also swim-only or swim-run formats for those not wanting to take part in the full triathlon.
Aside from the sport, the accompanying Tri Expo will feature specialist brands, equipment demos, and workshops for competitors and enthusiasts alike.
