Chris Ware: Drawing Is Thinking
By Charlotte Stace

The CCCB’s latest exhibition explores the groundbreaking work of Chris Ware, a visionary comic artist. From sketchbooks to The New Yorker covers and acclaimed graphic novels like Jimmy Corrigan, Building Stories and Rusty Brown, he’s redefined the language of comics.
The exhibition offers you the chance to explore Ware’s artistic evolution through original drawings, animations, sculptures and objects, and emphasises his influences, from early comic strips to architecture and ragtime music. This aims to showcase how his work reflects themes of human emotion, consumerism and political impact on daily life. Ware’s philosophy - “drawing is a way of thinking” - underscores his belief in the connection between art, memory and thought.
A final interactive space allows visitors to collaborate on a large-scale comic set in Barcelona, inspired by Building Stories. Created in partnership with La Gossa comic school and renowned illustrators, this participatory project invites the public to contribute their own drawings and ideas.
