The CCCB has launched a long-term project exploring tourism as a global phenomenon, examining its intersection with leisure rights as well as its urban and environmental impact.

Tourism has expanded cultural horizons and democratized travel, transforming economies and societies. It accounts for 7.6% of global GDP and 14% in cities like Barcelona, driving significant change but also sparking controversy over issues like housing, heritage and the impact on the climate.

The CCCB’s programme on City and Tourism brings together academics, writers, artists and thinkers to look at tourism’s complexities through diverse formats and activities, creating a deeper understanding of its challenges and opportunities. By addressing its issues more broadly, the CCCB seeks innovative approaches to the reimagining of tourism in the 21st century.

Check out the CCCB’s website for a number of seminars and debates on the subject throughout 2025.
