Ciutat Flamenco Festival 2025
By Charlotte Stace

Ciutat Flamenco is Barcelona’s annual flamenco festival, organised by Taller de Músics under the renewed artistic direction of Flamenco Projects. This eleven-day event brings artists, musicians and performers of flamenco together across a range of the city’s venues.
The festival explores innovation within flamenco, a folk tradition that originated in the Romani communities of Andalusia in the late 19th century. Rooted in song, dance and guitar, flamenco expresses deep emotion and resilience, evolving over time into a defining symbol of Spanish cultural identity and a UNESCO-recognised art form. Rather than simply celebrating its traditions, Ciutat Flamenco embraces experimentation - blending classic forms with contemporary, interdisciplinary projects, pushing the boundaries of what flamenco can be.
Among featured artists are Sara Jiménez, Vanesa Aibar, Antonio Molina “El Choro”, Julio Ruiz, and the flamenco circus project El Chicharrón. The program also includes a new competition called Ciutat Batalla, where performers experiment with improvisation and creativity in a live show.
