Cursa de Bombers
By Charlotte Stace

Running shoes at the ready - Cursa de Bombers returns for its 27th edition, bringing thousands of runners onto the city's streets for one of its most loved sporting events. Originally created to celebrate Barcelona's firefighters, the 10km race has become a favourite on the running calendar, attracting everyone from athletes chasing personal bests to enthusiastic amateurs looking for a challenge.
This year's edition will see around 16,000 runners take part, following a fast, mostly flat route through some of Barcelona's most recognisable streets, including Passeig de Colom, Paral·lel, Gran Via, Passeig de Sant Joan and Via Laietana. One of the best parts of this race is seeing the city's firefighters lead the way, running in full protective gear weighing more than 20kg.
With music, cheering crowds and plenty of encouragement along the route, it's a brilliant morning for runners and spectators alike.
