The exhibition Lighthouse Keepers. The Light That Guides Us at the Museu Marítim is a moving installation curated by the Port Authority of Barcelona. It focuses on women connected to the world of lighthouses, from official keepers to family members and silent observers whose lives were shaped by light, the sea and isolation.

Covering the 26 women who have officially served as lighthouse keepers in Spain, the display explores a profession historically dominated by men. Above all, it reflects the changes brought about by the Ports and Merchant Navy Act, which marked the end of traditional lighthouse roles through automation and a number of technical updates.

As part of the exhibition, you’ll be able to see personal stories through photographs, texts, and a short film documenting six former female keepers. A unique exploration of the profession, it aims to raise awareness of maritime signals and the human narratives behind them.
