MORTALS+
By Charlotte Stace

MORTALS+ is an exhibition at Fundació Suñol that explores HIV/AIDS through art, research and the local community. Curated by artist Albert Potrony and cultural mediator Roser Sanjuán, it brings together people directly affected by HIV - from patients and healthcare workers to researchers and those who are personally interested in the disease - to reflect on the evolving social stigma, legacy, and complexities of living with the virus.
The project is deeply participatory: working groups of diagnosed individuals and professionals co-create with the curators, using not just conversation but also visual and installation art. Alongside this, the exhibition draws from the Suñol Soler Collection, displaying key works whose themes resonate with the pandemic’s history and cultural memory.
At its heart, MORTALS+ is a space for research, support and collective experimentation, confronting themes such as illness, death, aging, and resilience through art.
