Sant Joan is our great midsummer release. It’s a night of fire, noise, food and neighbourhood celebration that marks the arrival of summer in spectacular style. Across the city, friends, families and neighbours come together for communal suppers, music, dancing, bonfires and fireworks, giving the whole night its famous Nit del Foc energy.

If you don’t have a terrace or balcony to go to, head to the beach at Barceloneta and watch the madness ensue. Make sure to get there to claim your spot at around 8pm to 9pm as it tends to get busy. It’s a good idea to take a picnic, blankets, warm clothes and your own fireworks if you wish. Get comfy and wait for the night sky to lighten up with glitter and sparkles!

Of course, no Sant Joan is complete without cava and coca de Sant Joan, the sweet festive cake often topped with candied fruit, pine nuts or cream.
