Semana Santa in Sitges
By Charlotte Stace

If you’d like to soak up a bit more of Catalunya’s local cultural traditions, you might be interested in heading over to Sitges for the celebration of Semana Santa (Holy Week).
The festivities begin on Palm Sunday with the traditional Blessing of Palms at the Parish of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla, drawing in both locals and tourists alike. A highlight of the week is the Good Friday Procession of Silence, where centuries-old pasos (religious floats) depicting scenes from the Passion of Christ are carried through the streets.
Throughout the week, the town also showcases beautifully crafted Dioramas of the Passion at the Palau del Rei Moro, representing a journey through a range of biblical scenes. On Easter Sunday, you can catch the caramelles - traditional Catalan choral performances delivered door-to-door by singers in traditional attire.Religious or not, it’s an opportunity to step into the rituals and culture that shape Catalan life.
