Arte Bar
By Jessica Holom
Interested in painting but nervous to leave your comfort zone? Americans Bruce and Alisa have the answer for you in Arte Bar. The pair opened an art school in Los Angeles in 1999 then moved to France in 2010 to run an art camp for teens. They then saw a special opportunity in Barcelona, an artsy city without anything like Arte Bar.
In opening the space, the couple combine their love of running a business, teaching art, hosting, drinking wine and having a great time. At the bar, anyone – artist or not – can try their hand at painting with step-by-step instructions. The paintings always turn out unique, and the process takes customers to a place away from their day-to-day stress. There are no rules, no pressure – guests can paint however they wish.
The nights run €30 per person, including supplies plus great snacks during the break. Beer or wine is a mere one euro a glass, or bring your own. You can also book private group events.
