Uncertain Times, Germany Between Wars
By Charlotte Stace

The CaixaForum’s exhibition ‘Uncertain Times. Germany Between Wars’ delves into the Weimar Republic era (1919-1933), a period marked by political upheaval and cultural innovation. Despite its turbulent end, this epoch fostered ideas and creativity that resonate today. The exhibition provides a comprehensive view of this rich period and highlights key figures like Thomas Mann, Käthe Kollwitz, Otto Dix and Jeanne Mammen.
Through an array of mediums including photography, painting, sculpture, set design, music, interactive games and projections, the exhibition looks at the era's transformations and challenges. It also explores how the Weimar Republic questioned established societal norms, such as gender roles, authority and aesthetics. Uncertainty became the spirit of the times, and the paradigm shift opened the door to our current understanding of reality.
Running alongside the exhibition are activities such as guided tours, lectures and interactive spaces.
