MiróMatisse: Beyond the Images
By Charlotte Stace
We’re settling into autumn nicely and looking for cultural ways to spend our time on weekends. As a plethora of new exhibitions open up over the city, there’s one in particular that has caught our attention. The Fundació Joan Miró brings us ‘MiróMatisse. Beyond the Images’. Curated by Rémi Labrusse, it looks to highlight some of the similarities between two of the masters of the 20th century art scene - Spanish artist Joan Miró and French artist Henri Matisse - despite their differences in age and artistic style.
Not only will visitors be able to enjoy an experience that showcases the artistic conceptions and artworks of both Matisse and Miró, but they will also gain insights into these artists’ shared critique of the tradition of images in the modern, Western world. In keeping with Miró's thinking and his commitment to new and diverse art, the exhibition will also promote the work of local and up-and-coming artists.
