The exhibition Picasso Cyprus: Encounters with the Ceramics of the Mediterranean looks at Pablo Picasso through an unexpected island lens. Although he never visited Cyprus, the exhibition explores how ancient Cypriot art reached him through museums and publications, feeding his fascination with Mediterranean forms, symbols and handmade objects.
The show focuses especially on ceramics, bringing Picasso’s own pieces into the spotlight with Cypriot antiquities and works from collections across Europe. What this shows us is not a story of influence, but a richer encounter with hybrid creatures, expressive faces, animal forms, new shapes and the deep visual memory of the Mediterranean.
Highlights from the Museu Picasso collection include works such as Octopus, Ring of Dancers, Two Fish, Head of a Bull and Pipe-Player and Dancer. The exhibition is running until the end of September, so now’s your chance to catch it.
