A new exhibition at the Fundació Joan Miro presents the work of Catalan-born artist Joan Casellas, who relocated to New York and captured on film his circle of friends and everyday life there. His photographs offer a personal, intimate view of the city as lived by an artist in transition, blending the familiar with the alien, documenting the rhythms of community, creativity and change.

Curated by Martina Millà in the Fundació’s foyer, the exhibition draws a dialogue between Casellas’s New York imagery and the larger narrative of Catalan artists abroad and the trans-Atlantic art world. You’ll be taken on a journey of place and memory: the streets of New York become both backdrop and character, seen through the lens of someone bridging two cultural worlds.

This show resonates with the major exhibition on Joan Miró's contacts - his peers and friends - who had a lasting impact around the world.
