In 1983, Morten, Magne and Paul, three picturesque young men from Oslo, decided that "Norway was too small" and made for London, where they would live in bedsits and pursue fame and fortune with their band, a-ha. By 1986 they had it via their debut album, Hunting High and Low, which would eventually sell more than 10 million copies worldwide and spawn two mega-hits that still resonate today, in Take On Me and The Sun Always Shines On T.V..

This 2022 documentary charts in forensic detail the beginnings and subsequent history of a trio whose creative partnership has often been fraught. Animation is pleasingly used to illustrate the band members' early lives in a way that echoes the famous animated video for Take On Me. The level of detail and the focus on ructions within the group makes a-ha: The Movie one for committed fans of the group rather than the general viewer, but anyone who falls into that category should find plenty of interest here.
