The CCCB announce their new documentary showing and debate, entitled Breaking the Silence as part of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Although there is a growing trend against gender-based violence in society, violence against women continues to affect all communities. Such is the case of the trafficking of women, one of the most lucrative illegal businesses in the world and often virtually invisible. This November 25th there will be a screening of the journalist and film-maker Chelo Alvarez-Stehle’s documentary Sands of Silence: Waves of Courage. It exposes the underworld of sexual exploitation and trafficking in Asia and the Americas.

After the documentary there'll be a discussion on modern-day sexual exploitation and trafficking with the presence of the filmmaker Chelo Alvarez-Stehle, the protagonist Virginia Isaías, a sex trafficking survivor, specialist lawyer María José Balda Medarde, and coordinator of the Municipal Unit against Human Trafficking, Verònica Giménez.
