Carles Gabarró - The fragility of painting in the age of fast food
By Charlotte Stace

Carles Gabarró (Barcelona, 1956) has pursued an impressive artistic journey over four decades, marked by a commitment to material painting and a distinctive iconography unlike any other artist’s. His work is primarily characterised by the repetition and transformation of motifs, which exist in a constant state of flux without resolution. Moving between figuration and abstraction, his art explores themes of sameness and change, capturing them in a single gesture.
Cam Francis’ exhibition traces Gabarró’s evolving vision through four thematic areas: Magma (1995 - 1996), Libraries (2006 - 2024), Factories (2009 - 2015) and Beds (2013 - 2024), alongside key works from the 1980s to the present. His paintings reveal a dynamic interplay of structure and transformation, inviting viewers into a world where permanence and change coexist.
Curated by Francesc Puntí, the exhibition celebrates Gabarró’s unique artistic language and enduring creative exploration.
