La Filmoteca will screen the modern classic, Coffee and Cigarettes (2003). Directed by Jim Jarmusch, the film stars a whole host of well-known actors and musicians: Roberto Benigni, Steve Buscemi, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, Iggy Pop, Tom Waits, and Steve Coogan, amongst others.

The film is a series of small stories, each featuring various characters who sit around tables drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. They discuss topics as diverse as caffeinated ice creams, Abbott and Costello, conspiracy theories about Elvis, how to make English tea correctly, Nikola Tesla’s inventions, the fictional rock band Skürl, Paris in the 1920s and much more.

Shot in black and white, it is one of the most unique and thought-provoking films to come out in recent times. The quirky conversations and air of nostalgia the film brings make it a must-see, if you haven’t already.
