El Fenómeno Imprevisto
By Aimee Lawrence
Rome-based Italian illustrator Cecilia Sammarco displays her vibrant works at Raval gallery Miscelanea this month with her exhibition El Fenómeno Imprevisto. With a focus on visual identity and an interest in cultures, myths and folklore, through acrylics she journeys between stereotypes, archetypes and the distinctions found in different cultures.
For her, opposites attract and artistically speaking, are very much compatible when found to be a source of inspiration. She seeks to unite the visible with the invisible, the present and the past, spiritual and popular, and the everyday with exotic. Imperfection, chaos, ambiguity and disorientation are words also used in connection with the exhibition, and will no doubt spark intrigue among those who appreciate the arts.
