Eli Kezsler
By Kit Macdonald
Casa Montjuic continues to fly the flag for booking fascinating international live shows in Barcelona, and this one looks intriguing even for them. New York City's Eli Kezsler is the kind of sickeningly talented musical polymath for whom the label "multifaceted artist" barely scratches the surface. A composer, sound artist and percussionist, his own original pieces draw on genres and forms including contemporary classical, experimental, free jazz, punk rock and installation-based sonic art. As he said in an interview a few years ago: "Oftentimes, musically I find myself attracted to things that are so slow they seem fast and so fast they seem slow - when you have so many hits that they eventually turn into a long tone."
As prolific as he is inspired, Kezsler has knocked out 10 solo artist albums since 2008's debut Livingston, the most recent of them being the wonderful Icons, for Glasgow's LuckyMe label. He has also started to become a big name in the film soundtracks world, most notably collaborating with Oneohtrix Point Never on the OST for Uncut Gems.
