If you don’t know the tragic story of Saint Eulàlia, this year’s Festes de Santa Eulàlia might be the perfect opportunity to discover why Barcelona holds this young patron saint in such high regard. Eulàlia, a 13-year-old girl, was martyred in the early 3rd century AD for defying the Romans and refusing to renounce her faith.

Her bravery and sacrifice remain deeply ingrained in the city’s cultural memory and are honoured annually through this festival. As the city’s largest celebration dedicated to children, it never disappoints. Promising a vibrant mix of tradition and festivity, you can expect lively Catalan folk music and dancing, alongside impressive displays of gegants (giant) both old and new.

The famous correfoc (fire run) is also set to take place along the Cathedral's plaza as well as castellers (human castles) at Plaça de Sant Jaume – events loved by adults and children alike.
