Among the open-air cinema options in Barcelona, Gandules at the CCCB’s Pati de les Dones inner courtyard is the most conceptual and inventive. Unlike other cycles, where great but rather randomly chosen films are shown, the program of Gandules is always built around a thematic narrative.

This year’s selection has been curated by Desirée de Fez, film critic at Fotogramas and the Sitges Film Festival, according to the seven deadly sins. Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, anger, envy and pride are the protagonists across nine selected cinematic gems, including Almódovar’s sexy Movida Madrileña film Laberinto de pasiones (1982), Richard Linklater’s cult, coming-of-age comedy Dazed and Confused (1993), Nicolas Roeg’s psychological thriller Don’t Look Now (1973) and the surrealist Czech horror Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (1970) by Jaromil Jireš.

The public will also have a chance to suggest songs for the Gandules playlist on Spotify that will be played before each film. (Films shown in their original version with subtitles in English, Catalan or Spanish – check individual showings for more info.)
