Holy week in Tarragona
By Charlotte Stace
The Easter vacations are approaching fast. If you fancy getting together with a group of friends and taking leave of the city for a short while, then we have just the thing for you.
The city of Tarragona will hold its annual Holy Week celebrations. You’ll get to soak up some of the city’s historic culture, listen to the sound of the famed armats (armed soldiers), and watch the Easter floats go by in a mini parade. There’ll be a procession of the Holy Burial, which passes by a number of the city’s beautiful churches, as well as a number of other Easter-related activities.
Whether you’re religious or not, this is one cultural and historic event that can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone. The first documented proof of Tarrogona’s Holy Week dates back to 1550. On average, there are around 4000 people that take part in the events each year.
