Ice nine kills
By Kit Macdonald
American heavy metal rock band Ice Nine Kills comes to perform live at Sala Apolo. Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, they’re best known for their horror-inspired lyrics.
After forming in early 2000 by the high school friends Spencer Charnas and Jeremy Schwartz, the group started experimenting with music and composing their own songs. The pair derived the band’s name from the fictional substance ‘ice-nine’ which features in the 1963 novel Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut.
Since beginning, they’ve gone on to release six studio albums, the most recent of which being the highly successful Welcome to Horrorwood: The Silver Scream (2023). Together, they make music that is both timeless and timely, that blends the genres of metal, hardcore, and punk. Their hard-rock-and-horror anthems like ‘The Shower Scene’, 'Hip to be Scared', 'Assault & Batteries', and 'Take Your Pick' demonstrate the group’s fascination (or borderline obsession) with fright, horror and pop culture.
