IndiFest: Indigenous film festival
By Charlotte Stace
One of our favourite events during the film festival season is the Barcelona Indigenous Film Festival - known as IndiFest. One of the most thought-provoking film festivals to hit the city, it is dedicated to highlighting the rich tapestry of indigenous communities and cultures around the globe.
Held annually, it transforms the city into a centre of artistic expression and cultural dialogue, showcasing an eclectic mix of films and documentaries that explore the complexities, struggles and successes of indigenous peoples.
The festival kicks off with a screening of the Chilean director Alejandro Valdevellano’s film, Algún día las raíces (2024). Some of the highlights this year include: the Inuit film, Nipi Utaiamun (La voz del agua) (2023); the Indonesian film, Indai Apai Darah (2024); and the Kamayurá film, Kwat e Jaí (2024).
