Joanne Robertson

“It’s not just improvisation in a careless way, it’s a vocabulary that I tap into,” the Glasgow-based singer, songwriter, guitarist and painter Joanne Robertson told The Wire magazine in an interview in 2022. “And when I collaborate, that’s when the vocabulary expands.” The names behind these collaborations speak for themselves: Mica Levi, Oliver Coates and, most notably, the avant-garde composer Dean Blunt, with whom she has had an occasional creative partnership for around a decade now.
Robertson and Blunt have teamed up again on the release that this show has been scheduled to promote: an atmospheric, leftfield pop-flavoured mini-album called Backstage Raver that packs eight woozy, beautiful tracks into its 17-minute duration. Support comes from Ubaldo, the experimental ambient (he calls it napcore) project of Andreu G. Sierra. Ubaldo are onstage at Casa Montjuic at 8.30pm and Robertson starts one hour later.
