La Mercè at the CCCB
By Charlotte Stace
To coincide with the La Mercè celebrations, the CCCB is opening its doors from September 24th to the 26th for free with pre-booking.
La Mercè is Barcelona’s annual festival held in celebration of its patron saint, Mare de Déu de la Mercè (the Virgin of Mercy). The tradition dates to 1687, when the governing Consell de Cent (Council of One Hundred) credited her with saving the city from a locust plague and named her as the city’s patron (alongside Santa Eulàlia). Festivities are held in the days leading up to the Roman Catholic feast day of September 24th.
At the CCCB you will be able to visit the current exhibition “Science Friction. Life among Companion Species”. The starting point for this exhibition is the scientific evidence that all terrestrial species are linked by symbiotic, interdependent relationships. In nature there are no autonomous or independent organisms; we are all part of mutually integrated ecosystems. Don’t miss it!
