L’Alternativa
By Mariana Hristova
In its 26th edition, L’Alternativa screens acclaimed contemporary auteur films, inviting viewers to enjoy another carefully-curated, thought-provoking and inspiring program. One of Barcelona’s longest running film festivals, this year’s theme revolves around the 1991 fall of the Berlin Wall in a reflection on political and cultural realities through cinema.
This edition’s festival welcomes French filmmaker Jean-Gabriel Périot as its special guest, screening most of his renowned filmography. Those looking to further their knowledge of cinema can take part in master classes, workshops and seminars. With a selection of international films you might not otherwise get a chance to see (including by Mark Jenkin, Enrico Masi, Oskar Alegria and Sarah J. Christman) as well as shorts and work from national directors such as José Luis Guerín or Arancha Brandon, enjoy the warmth of cinema as autumn winds make their way into the peninsula.
