Love Shows Up in Unexpected Places
By Natasha Drewnicki
Creativity could be described as a clever combination of random thoughts, but according to artist Dora García, the starting point for creative thinking doesn’t have to be an idea.
Instead of using a gallery to showcase finished artwork, this Valladolid-born performance artist transforms spaces into sensory experiences through experimenting, interacting and playing with her audience. Some performances develop clear narratives, while others belong to realms of the fantastical and bizarre.
García will also host a workshop at MACBA for anyone interested in performance art or the ideas behind her work. García loves to challenge the audience’s perception of what makes art real, actively engaging with gallery-goers to allow each situation to develop serendipitously.
