MACBA new collection
By Charlotte Stace
What would happen if we separated the artwork from the museographic context that surrounds it? How would that help us to perceive the work for itself, in its poetic essence? Can museography be considered a kind of aphasia? Is it possible to disarticulate the dramaturgy of the museum, that which tells us how to move through certain spaces, how to observe the artistic experiences on offer and how to apprehend the knowledge that emerges? If we accept this turnaround, what other meanings would be generated to interpret the work anew? And what are the implications for the redefinition of the museum as an institution?
All of these questions MACBA attempts to answer through the exhibition of its new collection. It will use works acquired in recent years that look to make new relationship scenarios with existing works from the Collection, but also with works on loan from artists inside and outside the Collection.
