The CCCB brings another edition of Memefest to the city. This event offers a celebration of digital folklore and takes a light-hearted and cathartic look at humour on social media.

In times of metaverses, deep fakes, astrology, flat-earthers and conspiracy theories, once again we raise the old question: what is true? Because it seems that there are no certainties anymore. Because in turbulent times, an ironic distance seems to be the only possible option. Because it is increasingly difficult for us to separate the physical from the virtual.

The event will also be exploring what we have become thanks to app filters, and the obsession with aesthetics and the perfect image. On this journey to understanding who we are and where we are, and what is real and what made up, they’ll be visiting our digital past: what first made us laugh, and what our first virtual refuges were.
