Modern Obscure Music: The Listening Room, BD Barcelona Design
By Kit Macdonald
From April 2nd to April 12th, Barcelona's own Modern Obscure Music, "a cross-cutting platform exploring the boundaries between different disciplines based on deep listening and music research", celebrates its 10th anniversary with a pop-up listening room and record store in Sant Martí. Pedro Vian, the man behind both the label and several of its best releases, will present his private collection of records throughout the 11 days, with a special focus on world music and experimental sounds. The pop-up can be found in the Sant Martí studio of the design company BD Barcelona, and a selection of natural wines and coffees will be available from Nomad and Bar Brutal.
Of particular interest are six special "In focus" events scheduled from 6pm-11pm. These include "Occident And Orient in Dialog" (April 3), "The Spirit of Jazz and Avantgarde" (April 5), "Akebu-Lan: From South to North" (April 10) and the likely highlight of the whole shebang, "Tribute to Ryuichi Sakamoto" (April 4). Capacity for these events is limited, and free tickets must be booked in advance on Dice.
