Nexcyia
By Kit Macdonald
The African-American/French sound artist Nexciya, aka Adam Dove, released his debut EP in late 2020, a fuzzily beautiful six-track alien transmission that was accurately described by Boomkat as sounding "like an old Fennesz record being sent across an empty universe over a dial-up connection. Lo-fi in the best possible way".
Since then Dove, who lives and records between London, Paris and his family home in Normandy, has been mining similar sonic territory to gorgeous effect, releasing EPs for labels including Alien Jams and Takuroku, the in-house label of London's legendary Cafe OTO venue, and playing alongside the likes of Caterina Barbieri, Kali Malone and Ulla. His early-career run of releases recently culminated in the wonderful Endless Path of Memory album for Pensaments Sonics, a sub-label of John Talabot's Hivern Discs. Support comes from res_és_nostre, who takes to the stage at 8.30pm, while Nexciya starts at 9.30pm.
