Nouvelle Vague
By Charlotte Stace
French cover band Nouvelle Vague comes to Sala Apolo this month. Led by musicians Olivier Libaux and Marc Collin, the name meaning “new wave” refers refers simultaneously to the French New Wave cinema movement of the 1960s, to the new wave music movement of the 1970s and 1980s, which provides many of the songs that the band covers, and to bossa nova (Portuguese for "new wave"), a musical style that the band frequently uses in its arrangements.
The group's music has featured a large rotating cast of mostly female vocalists. Several of these female artists have also gone on to have successful solo careers, such as Camille, Phoebe Killdeer, Mélanie Pain, and Nadéah Miranda.
After releasing their critically acclaimed self-titled debut album in 2004, they’ve since gone on to release eight studio albums. The latest of which, entitled Should I Stay or Should I Go? (2024), is what brings them now on a new tour. Do not miss these guys live.
